Carrollton to Host Free World of Foodies Event

WHAT:            Free socially distanced festival hosted by the City of Carrollton: Saturdays on the Square World of Foodies. Rain or shine.

VISUALS: 7-foot world map for photo ops, Hula dancers, Tahitian drums, Mariachis, an eclectic blend of feel-good music, and international or culturally-based food.

WHEN:            Saturday, September 12 from 3-9 p.m. 

World of Foodies is downsizing this year to promote social distancing. Admission is free with registration and attendance is limited to 50 people per session. Session times will be from 3-4:30 p.m., 5-6:30 p.m., and 7-9 p.m. Attendees must preregister for specific sessions. Walkups will be accepted if all sessions do not fill ahead of time and to maintain a maximum of 50 people per session. Each session will have a spaced seating area for attendees to enjoy food and watch a live performance. All seating areas will be sanitized between sessions. Masks and gloves will be available at no cost for attendees.

WHO:              The live entertainment varies from session to session and starts with Grace Hula Dance Company from 3:15-4 p.m. with dancers swaying their hips and moving their hands to tell a story to the beat of Tahitian drums; the Mariachi Queztal band from 5-6:30 p.m., an award-winning  ensemble of musicians from all over the state of Texas; and Kamica King from 7:15-8:15 p.m., a soul singer-songwriter known for smooth vocals and acoustic stylings.

Vendors will provide food with an international or culturally-based theme.

Food samples including barbecue in a smoked pineapple; four ounces of hibachi chicken with five ounces of fried rice; jollof rice; two brisket street tacos; and more, will be available for $4 each, in addition to full-size portions at varying prices.

Vendors will provide food with an international or culturally-based theme representing Japanese favorites from Tenshi Hibachi with chicken, shrimp, steak, and veggie hibachi entrees plus shrimp and chicken or steak and chicken dishes; Mexican cuisine from El Rincon Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar (1114 S. Elm Street Suite 100) will feature international refreshments made especially for World of Foodies at the outdoor patio including mai tais and margaritas, and the restaurant will be open with their usual menu; Nigerian flavors from B.Y.O. Chef LLC with chin-chin, purple yam fries, suya burgers, vegetable stew, and zobo; plus, Crunchies Eggrolls and More bringing Southeast-Asian tastes from Laos with eggrolls and Boba teas, fish tacos, and chicken kabobs.
