And why do we have one in Carrollton?
By: Paddy Keyk
I don’t actually know why we have Santa Fe Days in Carrollton. Isn’t that like in New Mexico? And do any of the Native Americans in New Mexico have any connection to Carrollton, TX, Cradle of Civilization? Unlikely.
Regardless, the 11th Annual Santa Fe Days in the Park takes place this Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The following information is courtesy of the City of Carrollton:
The growing event will be hosted in a new location at Carrollton’s own Sandy Lake Amusement Park (1800 Sandy Lake Road).
This American Indian arts and cultural event features unique, handmade American Indian jewelry, pottery, paintings, and other traditional crafts from more than 70 American Indian artists and craftsman. Performances by Plains Indian Dancers and Chickasaw Stomp Dance Shell Shakers are sure to entertain the crowds in addition to the demonstrations of finger weaving, flute playing, stickball, and pottery making. The indigenous grocery store will highlight the health benefits of blue corn, roots that heal, and reservation survival foods. Featured artists James and Doris Coriz are Santo Domingo Pueblo turquoise and silver jewelry makers trained in the art of traditional jewelry craftsmanship. Mr. & Mrs. Coriz will conduct workshops on how to identify natural turquoise from treated and imitation turquoise.
All are invited to attend for this enjoyable cultural event. Admission for all ages is just $2. For more information, visit santafedays.com.
Hey, it’s $2! Check it out!

CALLING ALL YOU GOLFERS!
Volunteers are STILL needed to help the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central Texas with their upcoming golf fundraiser events. You do not need to be a golfer to help! We need people who can man a table at several area golf courses lined up over this month. We will be offering golfers a $10 chance to qualify for a million dollar shootout. Following are the dates and golf course locations that we need volunteers to help. We need 2-3 volunteers for each date and location. Volunteers can come for the full or half day (the full day is 8:30 am – 4:00 pm). Please feel free to recruit family or friends to help too!
3/25 & 3/26 – Frisco Lakes Golf Club, Frisco
4/15 & 4/16 – Ridgeview Ranch, Plano
4/8 & 4/9 – The Golf Club at Champions Circle, Fort Worth
Please reply back soon if you may be willing to volunteer for any of the dates above, either a full or half day.
Other ways you can help The Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central Texas:
1. Recruit players/teams to play in our golf tournament on April 28th at Frisco Lakes Golf Club ($125 player/$500 foursome team).
2. Recruit silent auction donations and corporate sponsorships for our golf tournament (expected exposure is to 80 – 100 players).
3. Volunteer to help the day of our tournament.
4. DO YOU HAVE FREQUENT FLYER MILES
YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO DONATE for a specific need within our tournament? We can give you more specifics if you’re interested in helping. Please let me know!
The Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central Texas (www.bgcdentoncounty.org) provides a safe and caring environment for kids with limited opportunities to learn and grow through after school programs and summertime weeklong programs. They work to make a positive impact in the lives of children with community support and positive adult role models.
Creekview Wind Symphony to perform
alongside Carrollton Wind Symphony in Free Concert
(CARROLLTON) – Come and support fine arts education in our public schools
march 4 2011 flyer pdf
I wanted to let you know about a very important concert coming up this Friday, March 4. The Creekview Wind Symphony will be performing alongside the Carrollton Wind Symphony at Newman Smith High School beginning at 7:30 pm. Admission is free and open to the public. This concert will be sponsored by the Carrollton City Council, so many important community members will be there.
In this time of economic uncertainty, I believe that it is important as a band family that we send the message to everyone that FINE ARTS is a necessary and mandatory part of the educational climate in our district. There would be no better way to communicate this than to pack the house with our band family members at the concert on Friday evening.
Please, PLEASE consider giving of your time to have your voices heard while listening to some wonderful music. I am including a flyer for you to use and distribute as you see fit.
I hope to see you all at Newman Smith High School on Friday evening!
All the best for a wonderful week,
Director of Bands
